step 1: assessing the situation
First we establish a project team comprised of staff and other building users whom you want to involve. With that team we establish what matters for your organisation and consider the building in a strategic manner, adopting some of these tools.

> Workshopping your goals and program to explore what objectives your design must address.
> Researching the social life of your service by participating in your program to better understand the way you work.
> Auditing the physical fabric to establish what exists, what is working in an existing building and what the known problems are.
> Exploring possible futures with scenarios to explore how a building might support a range of different situations.
