2: establishing the brief
A
project brief must be much more than a list of rooms. It needs to
address relationships between building users and a range of social
issues. The core of our brief is always a set of “Design Ideas”
that identify social and spatial requirements to be supported by
building work. Each Design Idea brings together lifestyle,
operational and care concerns. A brief might contain thirty Design
Ideas, each addressing some aspect of the life of the building.
They are presented as both written and diagrammatic concepts (Touch
some of these example of diagrams for a summary of the associated
text). Other parts of the brief might include a list of room requirements,
site analysis, an assessment of regulations, a complete project
budget and time frame. As a package this can also provide a feasibility
study for a project that illustrates a range of project solutions.
