building design guide
The Guide was developed for UnitingCare Ageing NSW.ACT with the aim of supporting the development of better residential buildings for older people. It brought together best practice from across the network and provides a process for ensuring better briefing of architects. The process included staff who worked in the areas of care, property and management. The Guide addresses alternative models of care, design concepts, specification of finishes, building services and financial modelling. The core of the Guide is a set of 32 Design Guidelines. These are statements that identify spatial relationships to be satisfied if a building is to support specific social needs of residents and staff. They bring together lifestyle, operational and care concerns. Together they provide a vision of how aged care buildings might provide better places to live.
