about us

design-build programs
Community architecture extends beyond discussions about design to the process of building. We have developed construction systems that allow for the participation of building users in construction. We have found that involvement in construction can increase building users’ sense of ownership and encourage ongoing participation in community life. For many projects we can find opportunities for participation, such as assembling timber frames, making a mosaic from hand-painted tiles or contributing to a community garden. We can incorporate training programs including both construction and life skills components. In one example students with limited prior construction experience learnt basic building skills on site through building the playground. These included technical, coordination and group skills.
